The DNA of this course

Where conversations get longer and richer

You already speak from day one — now you keep the conversation going. Beginner stretches your spoken French into stories, opinions and real Parisian small talk.

01

Speak first

No grammar drills. You learn by listening and speaking in real situations — French goes in through your ears and out through your mouth.

02

Dynamic practice

Pair work, small-group exchanges and role-plays in every single lesson. You’re talking, not taking notes.

03

Complementary track

A perfect companion to our French through Culture courses — the spoken counterpart that brings structured French to life.

04

Confidence building

Repeat, recycle and extend key phrases until they’re instinctive. You leave each lesson sounding more like yourself, in French.

What you'll learn

You’ll talk, react, and belong

Four everyday Parisian moments, taken further — richer exchanges, your own opinions, real conversation. No grammar to memorise, only French to live and speak.

Lesson 01

Catching Up (Prendre des nouvelles)

Reconnect, ask how someone’s really doing and share your own news — the warm rituals of French friendship.

Lesson 03

Cooking & Sharing (Cuisiner ensemble)

Plan a meal, swap recipes and shop for it — the most French way to spend a lesson.

Lesson 05

A Night Out (Une soirée entre amis)

Suggest a plan, agree on details and keep the table talking long into the night.

Lesson 07

Around the City (Dans la ville)

Recommend a spot, give directions and talk about your favourite corners of Paris.

Student stories

01

Bonjour, je m’appelle…

Hello, I'm called…

Introduce yourself to a stranger: give your first name, nationality, and home city. Use je m’appelle… / je suis… / j’habite à… and je parle un peu français. Respond to et vous ? without hesitation.

02

Au marché et à la boulangerie

At the market and the bakery

Buy three products, ask for the price, and close the transaction. Use je voudrais [produit], s’il vous plaît, c’est combien ?, and voilà, merci !. Practice with a progressively reduced script.

03

Comment y aller ?

How to get there?

Ask for and understand a simple itinerary, then buy a metro ticket. Use pour aller à [lieu], s’il vous plaît ? and understand à gauche / à droite / tout droit. Confirm the directions by reformulating.

04

Au café, au restaurant

At the café, at the restaurant

Place a full order, handle a mistake (ce n’est pas ce que j’ai commandé), and ask for the bill. A complete role-play with no script on the second pass.

05

Chez moi

At home

Describe your home in 3–5 sentences: name the rooms using il y a [pièce] dans mon appartement, locate them with prepositions (la cuisine est à côté du salon), and give the floor number.

06

⚡ Speed dating : Bienvenue en France !

Speed dating: Welcome to France!

Chain the 5 speech acts from Units 1–5 in a speed dating format: introduction, shopping, directions, ordering, and home description. Five 1–2 minute exchanges with no written support and at least one unexpected prompt per situation.

Recap
07

Ma journée, ma routine

My day, my routine

Describe your typical day in 5–6 sentences: give the time using il est [heure], use reflexive verbs (je me lève à…), and name the relevant days of the week. Answer questions from your interlocutor without a script.

08

Ce que j’aime, ce que je déteste

What I love, what I hate

Exchange preferences on food, activities, and places over 5 turns. Use the full opinion scale, ask et toi, tu aimes… ?, and react with moi aussi ! / pas moi. Close with a short monologue: 3 things you love about France.

09

Je ne me sens pas bien

I don’t feel well

Describe two symptoms and request medication at a pharmacy. Use j’ai mal à la tête / au ventre / à la gorge, j’ai de la fièvre, and vous avez quelque chose contre [symptôme] ?. Full role-play without a script.

10

⚡ Speed dating : Mon premier mois en France

Speed dating: My first month in France

Final consolidation of all LSF Beginner speech acts in free production. Five situations drawn at random from Units 1–9, each with at least one unexpected prompt, no script, and a minimum total exchange of 1 minute 30. The final assessed task of the course.
